Ok. The issue apparently was that the *initial* blog post was posted  
via the
MetaWeblog API. Obviously that does not set the permissions correctly  
even
though the item appears to be in a "published" state for Managers.

Reverting it to "draft" and then re-publishing it made it visible  to  
anonymous users.

AFTER this, it seems to be possible to post via the MetaWeblog API as  
expected.
