That's very strange.  I don't have much time to spend debugging this 
right now, and I'm inclined to believe that it will go away if/when we 
factor out the "evil workflow".  So, unless someone wants to look 
further at this, we'll probably have to live with it for (at least) 
version 1.5 of Quills.
